Thirty-Nine Years

When I got out of school my life was pretty scary till

I met a pretty girl and she said why don’t we marry.

I thought about it saying are you sure that’s necessary.

Now we’ve been married thirty-nine years.

Thirty-nine years of fussing and a fighting.

Thirty-nine years of wronging and a righting.

Thirty-nine years of loving and delighting.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

We lost our first baby but we had three others.

Blessed with a son and two lovely daughters.

Raised them best we could like fish out of water.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

Thirty-nine years of fussing and a fighting.

Thirty-nine years of wronging and a righting.

Thirty-nine years of loving and delighting.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

Well we sit by our pond drink coffee every morning.

Share the newspaper read a story that is boring.

Say a few words get up and leave without a warning.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

Thirty-nine years of fussing and a fighting.

Thirty-nine years of wronging and a righting.

Thirty-nine years of loving and delighting.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

As I look back now life’s been good I have to say.

We have a house in Reno and one on Mitchell Bay.

Three grandbabies and maybe more someday.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.

Thirty-nine years of fussing and a fighting.

Thirty-nine years of wronging and a righting.

Thirty-nine years of loving and delighting.

We’ve been married thirty-nine years.
